Okoljski vidik digitalne odgovornosti
Digital technologies are often seen as clean in intangible, yet their environmental impact is substantial. Every online activity relies on physical infrastructures such as data centres, networks, and devices that consume energy and natural resources. This growing environmental footprint highlights the need to expand the concept of digital responsibility beyond ethics and data protection to include sustainability—an area that aligns closely with the goals of the Projekt DIRECT.
The Projekt DIRECT promotes the responsible use of digital technologies through education and training, aiming to ensure that digital transformation benefits both society and the environment. While much of the focus in digital responsibility has traditionally been on privacy, cybersecurityin ethical AI, ta environmental dimension is becoming increasingly important. Energy consumption from data centres, the rapid growth of digital services, and the environmental cost of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence all contribute to a hidden but significant ecological impact. Incorporating this perspective into digital responsibility frameworks strengthens the holistic approach that NEPOSREDNO advocates.
Another key issue is electronic waste, which continues to grow as devices are replaced more frequently. Addressing this challenge requires not only technical solutions, but also changes in behaviour and awareness. The DIRECT project’s emphasis on education provides an opportunity to introduce learners and professionals to sustainable practices, such as extending device lifecycles, reducing unnecessary digital consumptionin promoting recycling and reuse.
By integrating environmental awareness into digital responsibility competences, NEPOSREDNO helps bridge the gap between technological advancement and sustainability. It encourages individuals not only to use digital tools ethically, but also to consider their broader impact on the planet. In this way, digital responsibility becomes a multidimensional concept—one that supports not only safe and fair digital practices, but also a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
