Universidad de Twente

Perfil

“High Tech, Human Touch” is the motto of the University of Twente where about 3,300 scientists and professionals work together on cutting-edge research, innovations with real-world relevance and inspiring education for approximately 12,000 students. The enterprising university, established in 1961, has the highest number of spin-off companies (more than 900) in the Netherlands (like Booking.com, XSENS, DEMCON) and is one of the highest in Europe. The Department of Instructional Technology (IST) of the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences (BMS) with around 30-person staff studies and designs systems and environments (human and/or machine) for the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Research facilities

UT’s Digital Society Institute (DSI) (450 researchers) connects technology (high tech) to human behaviour and social relevance (human touch). Its focus on seamless, responsible digitalization means both paying attention to adopting technologies such that they are perceived as being a natural part of our environment and society and developing of technologies that one can effortlessly use and justifiably rely upon.

Proyectos

The IST department has been and is participating in many national and international projects; among others in FP5, FP7, H2020, Erasmus+, ERC, NATO, NWO, DFG, Ministry of Education, SENTER, Kennisnet, and SURF. The staff of the department has extensive experience in the design and evaluation of ICT-based learning products and this has led to a number of products that are used in schools (KMQuest), often at a large (Go-Lab, Next-Lab, GOGA), and incidental commercial scale (SimQuest applications), and also at a full commercial, world-wide, scale (ZAP).

Pericia

UT is a pioneer in inquiry-based learning, online learning, and conversational agents. Further expertise: Intelligent educational systems, machine learning in education, innovative and emerging technologies in education. UT will take the coordinating role of the project based on its large experience in EU-funded project management; high expertise in higher education, online education, collaborative learning (CSCL), learning engineering, and AI in Education.

Tareas clave

UT will lead WP3 to develop the learning pathways for the project target groups. In addition, UT will assist the Project Supervisory Board from the position of technical manager.
